Akkar was founded in the year 1985 as a small factory in Istanbul that focused entirely on producing parts for the shotgun and automobile industries. The doors to the international arms industry opened soon after it began producing and distributing the first gas-operated, pump-action semi-automatic shotguns, Altay, in 1992.This arguably paved the way for other Turkish arms manufacturers to establish business with American colleagues and in other parts of the world.
Akkar's product lineup includes pump-action and auto-loading models for security, sporting, hunting, and IPSC competition in various calibers.
Akkar was founded in 1989 for manufacturing firearms parts under the name of Akkar Demir Haddeleme Ltd. Akkar firstly started with airguns and has become the first producer of pump-action and semi-auto shotguns in Turkey by starting the production of these shotguns in 1992.
Akkar's production has been greatly increased since 1998, in which export sales started, and reached up to 80,000 shotguns in 2003 which was a top record approving Akkar's leadership in the shotgun industry in Turkey. Akkar is the leading shotgun exporter in Turkey as it exports nearly 98% (80% to the USA) of its whole production.
